Every Life Has A Story

05.22.10 Posted in Inspiration by David Ballard

I had the privilege of meeting Dan Cathy, President and COO of Chick-Fil-A, a few months ago at the recreate conference in Franklin, TN. He has such a passion for serving people and creating raving fans. I know I’m one of them. Chick-Fil-A has consistently been a favorite of mine for as long as I can remember. His heart and willingness to go against the grain of most fast food restaurants is what makes Chick-Fil-A stand out as a superior eatery.

This video is a great example of how we should always think of and treat every client we deal with. Everyone is coming from “somewhere” and we never know how much of an impact we might have on their lives and businesses.

Is Social Media A Fad?

05.20.10 Posted in Social Media by David Ballard

Some people might still think social media is a fad, but at this point, they might want to think again.

Even though still in its infancy, social media has changed life as we know it (unless you’re Amish, but even that’s arguable).

Check out these recent statistics on how immersed in social media some demographic groups in our culture have become. The next paragraph is part of a larger article from Advertising Age by Beth Snyder Bulik

While not that many people actively engage in social media during sex, they do in bed. Retrevo found that almost half of social-media users check in via phone while lying in bed. About 48% of those polled said they check or update Facebook or Twitter after they’ve gotten into bed at night and/or before they get out of bed in the morning. That number jumps to 76% for the 25-and-younger set, with a whopping 19% of those millennials saying they also check in whenever they wake up during the night.

And this newly-refreshed, nifty video that gives a great summary of where in the world we’re at with social media. I’ve used this video before in presentations, but some new numbers are very handy to prove to your client, your boss, your team, your tribe, that you should be engaged in social media.

Social Media ROI

12.04.09 Posted in Social Media by David Ballard

Lately, I’ve been getting lots of questions about the ROI (return on investment) for social media. The video below does a nice job answering that question and then some.

People, especially those not keen on change, often need solid evidence that something works before they buy in. Much of the time, these late/unwilling individuals wait too long and then get trounced by their competition. It’s fairly difficult to prove ROI for most forms of advertising. Measurable results aren’t always easy to see and social media is no different. As advertisers, our message doesn’t necessarily change, but the method must. If sales are down, do we blame the economy or something we’ve failed to do? If business is up, do we attribute it to a holiday shopping season or the fact we rocked Twitter and Facebook? It’s really hard to say, but by using social media well, I believe the results will be positive. It certainly can’t hurt anything (if you do it well).

USDA Rural Tour

09.17.09 Posted in Projects by David Ballard

ChickasawNutrition

The United States Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack, visited one of the Chickasaw Nation’s nutrition services sites in Purcell, Oklahoma this past Tuesday, September 15, 2009.

The next day, he blogged about it here: What Is Working: USDA Rural Tour Blog.

The blog states that the Chickasaw Nation’s Nutrition Services efforts represents a “model for our country.” We’re proud to be a part of the exciting change and opportunities we are providing to families. We have been diligent in promoting emotion based messages for healthy outcomes and our efforts are beginning to pay off. It’s great validation to hear from the Secretary of Agriculture that we’re getting it right. We have several new initiatives coming in the next few years and ROAR Creative is excited about its continued partnership with the Chickasaw Nation Nutrition Services. We look forward to the continued development of life-changing tools, programs and services that bring life and hope through creativity and innovation.

Mid-Century Inspiration

09.03.09 Posted in Inspiration by David Ballard

While working on some upcoming projects, I’m looking at a few mid-century designers for some inspiration. In particular, Paul Rand and Saul Bass. I posted this video on a personal blog quite a while back, but thought it would be beneficial to post it here. As a big fan of Star Wars and Saul Bass, this video makes me smile.
